Each year up to 2,500 children aged U6 to U18 participate in the Tournament with Hundreds of Games organized over the course of the 4 Day Tournament.
Chicago Gaelic Park is a local Irish icon since 1983. It has provided the community with a variety of events, sports and dance which has elevated the rich Irish Culture in the area.
With the CYC Championship Tournament to take place at Gaelic Park this year, it was obvious to members, almost 4 years ago, that the dilapidated scoreboard was in much need of an overhaul.
Aishling, with Aishling Companion Home Care services has been a long time member of Gaelic park as she raised her 4 children within the Gaelic Park community. Aishling along with other members realized the importance of working together to raise money for an electronic scoreboard in time for the CYC Championships.
With a committee of four including Aishling Dalton, Lizzy O Connor, Symonne Fitzsimmons and Mary Prendiville they held two fundraisers prior to coming up with the idea of the Commemorative Wall. The commemorative wall invited people to honor anyone of their choosing by having their tribute engraved in a brick used to support the electronic scoreboard.
The committee and members pulled together working tirelessly for years to ensure a project completed by the deadline, and within budget. Here’s to hitting it out of the park! The gorgeous electronic score board will continue to shine brightly to encourage another generation to enjoy the vibrant Irish culture and traditional sports.
The project was poetically coined Haon do Tri; translation One two three as that's what the committee felt about the fundraising efforts to enable this all to happen, “ let's just get it done , as simple as one two three!!!!!
