“Thank god that was only for five minutes,
I have a completely different understanding of this disease. “
“So mom really doesn't understand, and its not that she doesn't hear me say when I speak to her.”
“Now I understand why he does that.”
“So he can’t communicate his pain? Now it makes sense that he’s crabby all the time.”
“Now I realize why she bumps in to things all the time. “
“I couldn't remember what you asked me to do .
I wasn’t able to open the pill box you told me to even thought I know how to open it.”
“I never thought to look in the purse for my glasses that would have been the obvious place to find them, but I was so confused, because you asked me to do so many things simultaneously.”
“I couldn't wait to get out of that experience it wasn't nice. It was very frightening. “
All the guests that went through a very simple experience were enlightened on simple things that occur on a daily basis with their loved one, but they didn't understand the neurological changes that are taking place.
Every participant left craving more knowledge and asking for ways to help them with their loved one. Everyone said they wanted to learn more about the disease as they do not know where to get the vital information they need to get through each day. Many were moved to tears.
We can help, do not try and do this alone. Contact our office for more information and future training sessions to help you navigate through this. We offer training and support groups. Check our calendar of events for our regular scheduled programs and updates.
Come and meet similar families that are going through this to gather knowledge and vent at our support groups. We look forward to seeing you there.
If you would like this event brought to your facility or group we would be happy to make arrangements to demonstrate this experience for you. To get more information about the program visit our Dementia page.
