I sat with a client today and it reminded me of the very reason why I chose this business. We spoke about his prior experience with his Caregivers. His story was so disturbing, I asked him to share it with me during an interview because it is important to get the word out about how easily something like this can happen to our seniors.h. Nick who was married for over fifty years, took care of his wife from home till her passing. I learned today what I have always known in my heart, that our seniors are such special people.
His story was was so compelling, that we needed to dig deeper to find caregivers that take pride in their jobs and caregivers that want to be successful in their positions. He said, ” I don't want to have to tell her what to do, my wife knew how to do everything, don't they make them like that anymore?” It made me think that I need to do a better job in coaching our caregivers to cook the basics for each person we serve. He told me that he just wants simple food, like spaghetti, and pot roast once in awhile. He even said, ” if she could sweep the floor and do a load of laundry I would be so grateful”.
To any caregivers reading this blog, what we do is a privilege. Getting to know our clients -likes and dislikes, is the key to success in the home. It's not rocket science, it’s compassion. These chores, if you want to call them that, are so simple and bring such pleasure to our seniors. Food is comfort, and a clean house is too. Respect for those we serve and providing them just that will guarantee peace of mind. It has me thinking that all the training we have is not sufficient if we miss the very basics of life - providing customer service and creating memories for them is what's special. Our seniors are diamonds, and we will together make them forever happy by digging deeper and delivering what is most important to them. Everything in life is based on emotions and feelings and we will always be successful if we tap into this. The human being needs and wants to feel loved, heard, supported and comforted. How simple is that?
Special thanks to our caregivers out in the field who do a wonderful job daily. We appreciate you - and so do your clients. We are all humans with feelings. Life is a circle and one day the young will be old. All anyone wants is the basics of life and that starts with love. We all have it naturally... now let's shower our seniors with it!
